As a contractor you're only paid for the days you work. There's no paid annual leave, sick leave or public holidays, so the yearly figure assumes 230 paid days: 52 weeks less 4 weeks of unpaid leave and 10 public holidays.

Estimates only, not financial or tax advice. Based on the ATO's 2026–27 resident tax rates with the tax-free threshold claimed, the 2% Medicare levy and the low income tax offset, and super at 12%. It doesn't include HELP or other study loans, the Medicare levy surcharge, salary sacrifice or other deductions and offsets. Weekly and fortnightly tax is withheld as if you work all 52 weeks, so if you take unpaid time off you'll often get some back at tax time.
